# Acoustic Precision for Championship Golf Fairways
Live golf presents one of the most intellectually challenging acoustic environments in sports production. Unlike a stadium where continuous high-decibel cheering is welcomed, golf alternates between absolute, pin-drop silence during player backswings and sudden, explosive roar reactions when a 30-foot putt drops on the 18th.
## The Challenge of Open-Air Sound Dispersion
Over 18 holes spanning several kilometres of undulating topography, natural wind currents, and water hazards, standard PA speakers create either incomprehensible audio mush or unacceptable spill onto adjacent greens.
### Key Engineering Pillars
1. **Directional Beam-Steering**: By utilizing narrow-dispersion column arrays tilted precisely toward spectator grandstands, SPL falls off by more than 18dB within just five metres of the rope line.
2. **Instantaneous RF Mute Networks**: Every marshal and sound technician carries a synchronized radio trigger. When a player addresses the ball, the surrounding zone is muted automatically with a gentle 200ms decay curve.
3. **Underground Fibre Optic Rings**: Carrying 64 channels of Dante digital audio over redundant optical loops ensures zero phase issues across the entire championship course.
The result is crystal-clear commentary in the spectator village and total reverence where the tournament is won.
