Mastering Climate-Controlled Temporary Architecture in Extreme Desert Heat
# Mastering Climate-Controlled Temporary Architecture in Extreme Desert Heat Erecting a glassfront double-storey chalet in the Arabian summer requires serious thermal calculations. When outdoor temperatures climb to 48°C with high coastal humidity, a standard marquee quickly becomes a greenhouse. ## The Multi-Barrier Envelope We utilize double-skin thermal roof tarpaulins inflated with continuous low-pressure dry air. This creates an insulating barrier with an R-value comparable to permanent brick construction. All perimeter glazing is specified as argon-filled double glass with solar-reflective coatings. ## Air Distribution Without Drafts Rather than blasting icy air onto dining guests from ceiling nozzles, we route chilled air beneath our cassette sub-floors into linear plenum diffusers around the perimeter. The cool air rises naturally, creating uniform 21°C comfort with zero noticeable fan noise.
